The Chatham County Sheriff's Office supports many worthy local and statewide causes. One of our biggest local projects is our support for Special Olympics. Last year, through various fundraisers, staff members from our department were able to raise over $50,000 to our local Special Olympic athletes. Our department is proud of the fact that we raised the highest total of any participating agency statewide. It is important to note that all of the money raised in our community, stays in our community.
The Chatham County Sheriff's Department has participated in raising money for Special Olympics of Georgia. For the past several years we have consistently ranked in the top 10 departments in Georgia for funds raised. In 2009 we were named as the agency raising the most money in Georgia for Special Olympics by raising over $50,000.
Some of the fundraisers the department participated in were Cops on Donuts where officers sat on Krispy Kreme Donuts stores in Savannah for 60 hours and bagging groceries at Kroger Supermarkets.
The money goes to supporting local athletes participating in Special Olympic competitions both locally and on the statewide level.
