Provide a Safe & Secure Environment for Everyone Conducting Business at County Courthouses

  • Uniformed Deputy Sheriff’s - The Court Services Division is staffed with forty well-trained deputies and twenty six security personnel.
  • Closed Circuit Television - Court Services Division deputies and security personnel monitor more than sixty surveillance cameras throughout the County Courthouse campuses.
  • Weapons and Explosive Detention Technology - Court Services Division security personnel operate x-ray machines and walk-through metal detectors.
  • Occupant Emergency Plan for Courthouses - An emergency plan has been created that will ensure a safe and orderly evacuation or lock-down of County Courthouses in the event of a fire, bomb threat, natural disaster, or other emergency.   

Yearly Statistics  

  • 1,165,375 people entering the Judicial and Juvenile Courthouses in 2009.
  • 1,072 prohibited items confiscated in the Judicial and Juveniles Courthouses in 2009.

Court House Security  

Ga Code 16-11-126,127 prohibits the introduction of any weapon designed for offense or defense into this facility.  Furthermore, by order of the Sheriff of Chatham County, the following will not be allowed into the building:

  • Box cutters
  • Nail clippers
  • Scissors
  • Can & bottle openers
  • Tools (unless escorted)
  • Aerosol sprays
  • Mace or pepper spray
  • Knitting needles
  • Ammunition
  • Fireworks
  • Camcorders
  • Cameras
  • Tape Recorders

No Firearms allowed!
Any Items confiscated will not be returned!
