 Message from the Sheriff

Keeping Our families Safe

It is the responsibility of my office to monitor the compliance of the hundreds of registered sex offenders in Chatham County. We have a very capable Sex Offender Registry Team (S.O.R.T.) that is tasked with making sure that all of these offenders have provided us with accurate information as to where they work and live.

The Chatham County Sheriff's Office Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit (S.O.R.T.) was created as part of a comprehensive approach in dealing with the ever-evolving Sex Offender laws in Georgia. The Unit now consists of 3 full time Investigators whose sole job is to register and track all Registered Sex Offender's within Chatham County. The Unit also has a full time Analyst whose job is to register offenders and maintain the Sex Offender website.

According to GA Department of Corrections data (06-19-09), during the period between May 2004 - May 2009, Chatham County leads the state in the number of Registered Sex Offender convictions:

County   Convictions May 2004 - May 2009
(County Population is in parentheses)
Chatham (232,048)  154
Cobb (607,751)          84
Clayton (236,517)      59
Fulton (816,006)        38
DeKalb (665,865)       25
Gwinnett (588,448)    13

The above statistics show our level of dedication and the importance that the Chatham County Sheriff's Office places on keeping it's citizen safe and keeping Registered Sex Offenders compliant with Georgia law. We invite you to visit our site often and ask that you share any ideas or concerns that you may have. One of our Investigator's will respond in a timely fashion. We also invite you to provide any information that you have on an offender that doesn't match what our website shows. Many of our cases initially begin with a citizen's tip. Together, we will continue to make Chatham County a safe place to live.
