 Undersheriff Donnald E. Anderson

I would like to welcome you to our web site and give you a little history on the Office of Sheriff and the Chatham County Sheriff's Department.

The Office of Sheriff is a position that is mandated by the Constitution of the State of Georgia.  The Sheriff is the highest ranking law enforcement officer in the county and his deputies enjoy statewide jurisdiction.

At one time there were three Sheriff's Departments in Chatham County.  In January of 1985 all three departments were officially combined under one sheriff.  The sheriff's department has continued to grow and expand to meet the needs of the community.

The Office of the Sheriff is mandated by law to perform certain functions for the County.  One of which is to maintain the County Detention Center.      The Sheriff is also mandated to execute all warrants, civil processes, subpoenas, and writs delivered to him by the courts.  The Chatham County Sheriff's Department currently provides this service Recorders, Magistrate, State, Probate, and Superior Courts.
